This course is designed to provide business managers a good understanding of IP strategy, and in turn drive strong competitive differentiation and increased value for their companies. The basic forms of IP will be discussed, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. The focus of the course, however, is on best practices for leveraging IP assets in a business strategy. Specific topics include IP valuation methodologies, return on IP investment, leveraging IP in negotiations, international IP prosecution, litigation strategy, and best practices in the management of IP. Management best practices discussions will include managing cooperative arrangements such as joint ventures, partnering/licensing agreements, or manufacturing in different countries.

Dr. Kasie Whitener, of the Darla Moore School of Business, Management Department, will introduce the concepts of the Knowledge Alternative remote work strategy. 2-DAY INTENSIVE:

Re-flex: Remote Work Strategies for Your “New Normal”

We know remote work isn’t going away, not even after we return to the office in a safe and covid-free environment. How can companies effectively manage a hybrid workplace?

The 2023 workplace is a hybrid environment of local and remote employees. After safety measures are put in place, schools welcome students back on campus, and parents rejoin their colleagues at the water cooler, remote options will still be exercised. For a variety of reasons (covid exposure, immuno-compromised family members, pet and pajama affinities), some workers will stay home. Our summer of distance-productivity taught us that remote work is not an island in La La Land. It’s not just a crisis response. When approached through a project management lens, remote work encourages innovation and improves team cohesion.

This two-day workshop is designed specifically for managers who need a remote work strategy. We provide instruction in full implementation of a remote-work management practice that engages employees and drives results by identifying employee skill sets, prioritizing project planning, establishing clear expectations, and fostering employee engagement so that your clients’ needs are met efficiently and consistently.

Dr. Kasie Whitener of the Darla Moore School of Business Management Department will guide participants through applying the Knowledge Alternative remote work strategy to their own companies and remote work teams.
