The increasingly competitive and demanding data science field, coupled with the shift to virtual learning, have afforded us the opportunity to reevaluate our learning strategies and paths, strengthen and broaden our skills, and consider options from a wider variety of institutions.
By embracing collaboration and virtual learning, Executive Education at the Darla Moore School of Business has joined the University of Georgia to offer “Essentials of Data Science: Core Skills for Analytics Certification.” The two executive education programs have joined with the Institute for Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS) in a collaboration that can boost your capabilities – and possibly your career.
This training immerses participants in the concepts needed to stimulate your data science and analytics journey. Sharpen your fundamentals and learn strategies and concepts needed to earn Certified Analytics Professional (CAP®) and other relevant credentials.
This 3-day program is an opportunity for professionals from executives to analysts, or others trying to extend or improve their understanding of the analytics discipline.
We help professionals strengthen their conceptual and technical knowledge in data science, as well as help participants prepare for the certification exam, which is offered through INFORMS.
As program director, I’ve placed and coached two incredible instructors into this program, including Hani Safadi, an assistant professor from the Terry College of Business at UGA, and Bob Szymanski, a lecturer from the Darla Moore School of Business.
Your instructors will walk course participants through a carefully designed set of learning modules, covering such topics as:
- Common terminology for data literacy
- Leveraging data for high value
- Framing problems and questions
- Methodology and approach selection
- Model building, such as classification, prediction, clustering and optimization
- Telling the data science story
- Explaining the CAP exam, to help earn the certified analytics professional designation.
Analytics consumers, business leaders, and those involved with the data science function or teams, directly or peripherally, can derive substantial value from this program.
For data scientists, sharpening skills and learning the core knowledge needed to earn CAP designation represents an obvious advantage to this short course.
For executives, the program helps provide essential data literacy, and understand data scientists, helping leaders converse, invest, extract value, advocate for analytics, and apply data science resources as a critical tool to answer complex business problems for strategic advantage.
I am anxious to see your aha! moments in your learning, and to help equip you with ways to further advance your understanding and your career. I’m even more excited to see you apply what you learn within your current or future professional endeavors – leveraging data to improve how you conduct business, make decisions, and ultimately produce positive outcomes.
